California Children Services (CCS)

 


California Children Services is a statewide program that coordinates and pays for the medical costs of children (birth to 21 years of age) with special medical needs. In addition, there is a medical therapy program that provides occupational and physical therapy services to eligible children.
 
Program Eligibility:


Medical:
  • Child/Young Adult must have a medically eligible condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, heart disease, cancer, hearing loss)
    and

Residential:
  • Child/Young Adult must live in Alameda County

    and

Financial:
  • Income less than $40,000 or

  • Child’s/young adult’s out of pocket medical costs are expected to exceed 20% of adjusted gross income or

  • Child/young adult with Medi-Cal or Healthy Families

  • (There is no financial eligibility requirement for therapy services)

How do you refer and apply?
Children/young adults can be referred by anyone. Referrals and applications are accepted by phone, mail or fax. Please submit both the referral and the application form.

What services does the client receive?
  • Services related to the medically eligible conditions are paid for, including:

    • Hospital and physician care
      X-ray and laboratory services
      Medical supplies and equipment
      Home health care
      Physical and occupational therapy

  • Coordination of care by a nurse case manager in cooperation with the medical team.

  • Help locating other community agencies and services

How do we assist providers?
  • Assistance with becoming a CCS approved provider

  • Help with navigating the CCS/Medi-Cal system

  • Expedite authorizations, claims approval and processing

  • Provide information on client eligibility status

  • Provide outreach and education
