ACPHD's Goal

All residents, regardless of racial/ethnic status or place of residence, are able to pay for basic needs (including housing, food, transportation, healthcare, and childcare) and build wealth.

  • Everyone has access to income, through well-paying jobs that provide safe, meaningful work and/or adequate income supports to meet basic needs and promote self-sufficiency.
  • Everyone can build wealth and be economically secure through access to essential financial services and opportunities to accumulate savings, acquire credit, and develop assets.

Background Information

Current Projects

Alameda County Prosperity Project: The Place Matters Economics Workgroup is currently coordinating the policy work for the Alameda County Prosperity Project. The Alameda County Prosperity Project seeks to improve health and financial well-being in our community by increasing availability and access to fair financial services and products where predatory financial services are disproportionately located. The project's mission is to ensure that all residents, regardless of race or place of residence, can build wealth and economic security necessary to lead a long and healthy life. The overall goals of this project are aligned with Place Matters' Economics Workgroup goals and as the policy lead, the Economics Workgroup is advancing policies that enable local government to leverage its resources and ensure that taxpayer dollars are invested in institutions working with us to expand access to non-predatory financial products, small business loans and other financial services in underserved Alameda County neighborhoods. Additionally, the Economics Workgroup supports policies that promote community economic development in under-invested neighborhoods throughout Alameda County.
