Public Health Investigation (PHI)

Public Health Investigation (PHI)

The Alameda County Public Health Department, STD Prevention & Control Unit is responsible for Public Health Investigation (PHI)—also known as disease intervention—for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. PHI activities are intended to intervene in the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through follow-up to encourage timely testing and/or treatment for individuals who are infected with or exposed to chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Public Health Investigation efforts may also assist individuals with informing their sexual partner(s) of the need to seek counseling, testing, treatment, and/or other related sexual health services.
