Excellent Vaccination Rates for Alameda County Kindergarteners!

This year’s annual kindergarten report from the California Department of Public Health is out and while the California up-to-date rate has increased, Alameda County again ranks above the state average! 97.2% of Alameda County kindergarteners were up to date this year, compared to the state average of 95.6%.

California Law requires certain vaccinations for children in child care and in elementary school, middle school and some colleges.

The links below outline these requirements and offer support for child care and schools to enforce these requirements.

Immunization Requirements

These requirements keep all public, private and charter schools, as well as in-home and center-based child care programs in California safe from vaccine preventable diseases. Students who do not meet the requirements for their grade/ age may be denied entry to school until they are brought up-do-date.

We also have a comprehensive handout with links to all of the most important needed documents for checking immunization records for both Child Care and School personnel.

This new law on immunization requirements for California schools and child care programs may change how new students are admitted into schools starting January 1, 2016. SB277 eliminates the religious and personal belief exemption for immunizations in California and ensures improved community immunity levels for California schools.

This is another new law to be enacted beginning September 1, 2016 which introduces new immunization requirements for employees and volunteers of child care programs and in-home child care providers.
