Pedestrian Safety

CrossWalkCal Trans Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Grant is a collaboration of the Alameda County Partnership i.e. Alameda County Public Health Department EMS/Injury Prevention Program, ACPHD Nutrition Services and TransForm. During the initial grant cycle the Partnership increased biking and walking at 90 elementary schools throughout the County. Injury Prevention’s established Bike/Helmet Safety program was integrated with TransForm’s well-established Safe Routes to School curriculum to promote pedestrian and bike/helmet safety. As result of the success of the initial Cal Trans grant, the Partnership was awarded another three year grant in October 2011. The focus of the new grant will be establishing and managing safety patrols in elementary schools. The new three year grant will be Implementation in the fall of 2012.
