Heat Health Advisory

The National Weather Service's heat advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area remains in effect noon to 8 p.m. today, May 16. A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temps and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat-related illnesses are possible.

The heat watch is being issued using a new heat health warning system that specifically targets persons who are elderly or sick and might be more sensitive to heat and thus at greater risk.

Reminders for everyone:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Seek cooler locations during the day if no air conditioning is available.
  • Forego strenuous activities.
  • Friends and relatives should check frequently on those who might be prone to heat sensitivities.
  • Never leave children, elderly persons or pets unattended in enclosed vehicles even for a short time.
